Nine minutes into the match Ahmed el Moctar Ahmed seized the opportunity created by Abdallahi Mahmoud’s precise cross from the right to score the only goal of the match, which gave Mauritania three points at the expense of the Central African Republic (CAR). The result provided a much-needed boost to Mauritania, but left the CAR firmly rooted to the bottom of Group C.

Meanwhile, Clement Mzize’s brace after 13 and 20 minutes gave Tanzania the platform the Taifa Stars needed to beat Madagascar 2-1. Mzize opened the scoring after snaffling the rebound from Mudathir Yahya’s shot that hit the post with Toldo beaten. Seven minutes later Feisal Salum’s freekick from the left was turned in at the near post by Mzize.

Madagascar pulled one back after 34 minutes – Nantenaina Razafimahatana scored after Lalaina Rafanomezantsoa squared it to him from the right. The Taifa Stars held on for their third victory, ensuring that the co-hosts would be represented in the knockout phase of this CHAN.
