Return to Form

It requires a miracle for Zambia’s Chipolopolo to qualify for the World Cup despite an impressive 4-0 win over Mauritania yesterday. Beston Chambeshi, doubling up as Nkana’s coach, is in his second spell as Zambia boss, albeit on a short-term contract.

Fashion Sakala and Patson Daka scored the goals. Sakala bagged a rare hat-trick, almost half a century after Zambia’s first was claimed by the legendary Fred Mwila Snr in Lesotho’s first World Cup Qualifier – a 6-1 drubbing at the now defunct Dag Hammarskjöld Stadium in Ndola. The late Godfrey Chitalu scored a brace and Joseph Mapulanga scored the other.

Humanitarian, Nkana and Chipolopolo coach, Beston ‘Quicksilver’ Chambeshi

Chambeshi has recorded a video encouraging former footballers aged 65 or over to register for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIMA) because it provides free healthcare, treatment, medicines, physiotherapy and even operations at accredited hospitals, (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQzdYuNm4Ng).

Chambeshi pledged further support for the project to bolster registration of elderly Zambians. There will never be a better opportunity to help save the lives of the elderly who have contributed greatly over many years and improve the quality of their lives before it is too late.
