{"id":4486,"date":"2025-09-24T15:06:29","date_gmt":"2025-09-24T14:06:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/empowersmag.com\/empowersmagwp\/?p=4486"},"modified":"2025-09-25T19:22:14","modified_gmt":"2025-09-25T18:22:14","slug":"chan-champions-settle-for-bronze","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/empowersmag.com\/empowersmagwp\/2025\/09\/24\/chan-champions-settle-for-bronze\/","title":{"rendered":"<strong>CHAN Champions Settle for Bronze<\/strong>"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By Satish Sekar \u00a9 Satish Sekar (August 29<sup>th<\/sup> 2025)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Teranga Lions take Bronze<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>S\u00e9n\u00e9gal\u2019s Teranga Lions \u2013 the CHAN champions on 2022\u2019s tournament, which was held in Algeria two years ago \u2013 were eliminated by previous champions Morocco in the semi-final, so they had to settle for the bronze medal in Kampala after beating Sudan\u2019s Falcons of Jediane 4-2 on penalties after drawing 1-1 at Kampala\u2019s Mandela National Stadium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mohamed Tia Abu Daqn gave Sudan the lead after 6 minutes with a header from Abdel Yagoub\u2019s corner, a lead they maintained until half-time and beyond thanks in no small measure to the heroics of goalkeeper, Mohamed Abooja. S\u00e9n\u00e9gal equalised after 58 minutes through Seyni Ndiaye, the player whose missed penalty was crucial in the defeat against Morocco. Ndiaye\u2019s equaliser was a header \u2013 Ousseynou Seck\u2019s cross from the flank. Sudan thwarted S\u00e9n\u00e9gal, who had the better of the rest of normal time and extra time too, but could not find a way past Abooja. There was no further score, including the 30 minutes of added time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Walieldin Khdir let nerves get to him \u2013 he pulled his spot-kick wide. Meanwhile the Teranga Lions were flawless from the spot, with Joseph Layousse, Issa Kane, Vieux Ciss\u00e9 and Libasse Gu\u00e8ye&nbsp;scoring all four of their penalties.
